Giorgio Ambrogio Marchegiani was born on 27 May 1965 in Milan. He earned an M.Sc. degree in economics from Bocconi University in Milan. In 1988, he studied at Wirtschaftsuniversität in Vienna.

He started his professional carrier in 1989 with Swiss Re Germany, Munich, where he was responsible for their Italian business.

In 1992, he joined the Boston-based strategy consultancy Bain & Company where he worked out of the Milan and Munich offices in multiple industries, becoming a partner of the firm and focusing on insurance, but also involving automotive, media, and private equity clients. His consulting activity covered strategic and operational topics involving growth strategy, post-merger integration, and restructuring of companies mainly in Europe.

From 2007 to 2010, he worked with the consultancy Oliver Wyman (part of Marsh & McLennan Group) as director, member of European Insurance Group, and head of Italian insurance responsible for activities within the insurance industry. He served large insurance groups across Italy and Europe in strategic decisions and operational improvement.

In the period from 2011 to 2012, he joined Fondiaria-Sai (now UnipolSai) as head of Distribution, Retail and Motor Business Unit in charge of 3,500 agencies and 11,000 sales professionals and responsible for pricing, product development, and underwriting of motor, retail, and small business. In this capacity, he managed the largest portfolio of motor insurance in Italy with eight Mio policies.

From 2012 to 2014, he was the manager of the insurance company UnipolSai, resulting from the merger of Unipol and Fondiaria-Sai, the leader in the Italian non-life market, with the role of CEO of Liguria Assicurazioni (P&C) and Liguria Vita (Life), where he started and completed the turnaround of the two companies, bringing them back to profitability.

In December 2014, he was appointed general manager, and in June 2016 the chairman of the executive board of the insurance company DDOR Novi Sad, part of Unipol Group.

Since May 2016, he has been the chairman of the Italian – Serbian Chamber of Commerce.

Member of the Presidency of Savez Ekonomista Srbije (Serbian Association of Economists).

His mother tongue is Italian, he is fluent in German and English, and has basic skills in Serbian, French, and Spanish.
